Help Toxicology Partners Get Workers Comp Premium Discounts for North Carolina Businesses
North Carolina neighboring states, South
Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee businesses receive a 5% discount on their Workers Compensation Premiums IF they have a "Drugfree Workplace" policy that meets the guidelines set aside by the U.S. Department of Labor... so why isn't North Carolina willing to offer this as a perk to promote safe drugfree workplaces? And these states are just a few in the United States who have this legislation. After all, it would save millions of dollars for NC businesses.
It would be especially beneficial for North Carolina small businesses. Which represent 99.7% of all employer firms. Small businesses are typically the ones who have a tough time justifying the expense for employee drug testing programs. This makes them vulnerable to be targeted by drug users for employment.
Without an employer to pay the bills, many drug users wouldn’t have the funds to support their habit. Therefore, without a drug testing program, many employers are inadvertently feeding their employees (or potential employees) addiction.
According to the The Department of Health and Human Services and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA), it is estimated that of the 17.4 million current illicit drug users 18 years or older, 13.1 million (75.3 percent) are employed either full or part time.
According to SAMSHA data, a worker who is impaired by drugs or alcohol is 3.6 times more likely to be involved in a workplace accident and 5 times more likely to make a workers' compensation claim.
However, in a down economy many employers find it tough to justify the cost of a professionally managed drug testing program. However, a premium discount program like this could significantly reduce, if not eliminate the cost of the employers testing program
So, here is the rundown... it WILL save businesses money, it could save lives and prevent on the job injuries, it could encourage chronic drug users to seek help, it could encourage casual drug users to abstain, and it could deter potential drug users from starting.
Write your senator to tell him you believe our NC businesses deserve this premium discount!
